WARNER ROBINS, Ga. (WGXA) -- Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff welcomed Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed to Robins Air Force Base to illustrate Washington's commitment to the installation.
Senator Warnock, referring to RAFB as the "crowned jewel" of Middle Georgia, spoke of the base's role in representing the national security infrastructure of our country, saying that United States Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall has committed that Georgia will maintain a strategic role in national security with Robins being central to that effort.
"We appreciate the command, staff, and extraordinary men and women who work at Robins Air Force Base for their demonstration today of the vital role the facility plays in U.S. National Security," says Ossoff. "We will work, locked arm in arm, to protect our country from threats and to secure the military installations in our state which are vital to our national security and vital to our state's economy."
Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed commended Ossoff and Warnock for asking the men and women at Robins Air Force Base if they had adequate housing and for asking if there was anything else the Senate could do for them.
Reed says he is impressed with Robins for its commitment to staying on the cutting edge of communications technology. "The future of conflict is gonna be decided in the electronic domain," he says. "How well we can communicate, how well we can coordinate with all the units of our military forces and Robins is positioned (to be) in the leadership in that effort for the United States Air Force."
Senator Reed went on to say that this trip was an opportunity to see, first-hand, the future of the Air Force.
"We're continuing to make significant investments -- which we would not do if there's not a future for the facility." Reed said, assuring those in attendance that Robins is here to stay.
