Steve Scalise starting at second base 1 year after congressional baseball shooting
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is starting at second base for Thursday's Congressional Charity baseball game.
Scalise's stint is happening exactly one year after a gunman opened fire at practice and put him in critical condition.
On June 14, 2017, Scalise and four others were shot during a GOP practice for the annual charity Congressional Baseball Game in Washington, D.C. James T. Hodgkinson, the suspected shooter, opened fire on the victims at the field in Alexandria.
In October 2017, Scalise returned to the House of Representatives months after the shooting. The House Majority Whip also threw out the first pitch before Game 1 of the National League Division Series between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs.
