A suspect is in custody after a 20-year-old woman in Cordele was shot in the abdomen Monday morning.
According to the Crisp County Sheriff's Office, officers were called out just before 11 a.m. to the 1700 block of South 10th Street.
There, officers found 20-year-old Marecia Adams suffering from a gunshot wound.
Adams was taken to Crisp Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Officers and K9 units searched the area and found a handgun in the back yard.

Burks has been charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, false report of a crime, giving false statements and writing to law enforcement, theft by receiving stolen property, possession of firearm during commission of a crime and tampering with evidence.
Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock states, “The quick apprehension of Burks would not have been possible without teamwork and efforts put forth by everyone involved. I would like to thank the other agencies that assisted today personally; Cordele Police Department, Crisp County EMS, Georgia State Patrol Post 30, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Crisp County District Attorney’s Office and Georgia Bureau of Investigation.”
