Wakefest rolls into the good life city this weekend
If your still looking for plans this weekend, Wakefest is rolling into Albany for the tenth year this Saturday.
Wakefest President Adam Gilbert says it's not too late to get involved.
This year, there will be a golf tournament on Friday leading up to the competition.
On Saturday morning, there will be a rib cook-off where the winner will take home $500 dollars.
Gilbert adds, there's still room for riders who are interested in wakeboarding.
He says putting on this event every year is something he and the wakeboarding community look forward to.
"I always wanted to put on a tournament here in town and my friends, they all backed it up and wanted to be apart of it and one of the guys said why don't we do this and try to raise money. We could try to make it a charity at the same point and try to kill two birds with one stone and it was," said Gilbert.
This year, all proceeds raised will go towards Evan Vickers, a young boy who was born with multiple heat defects that required open heart surgery when he was just six days old. He was also diagnosed with Neuroblastoma in September of 2016. Since then, Vickers has battled six months of chemotherapy, two bone marrow transplants, 20 rounds of radiation and is currently finishing up six months of immunotherapy.
Gilbert's goal is to raise over $26,000 dollars to top the amount they raised last year.
