Dougherty County had a total of 22 building structures that were damaged as a result of Hurricane Michael.

On Monday, Dougherty County commissioners discussed a roof-repair contract with Georgia-based Edifice Consulting to make the repairs.

Director of Facilities Management Heidi Minnick says there are about 18 buildings left that need minor repairs.

Of those buildings, Southside Library and the Department of Motor Vehicles building on Newton Road have complete roof damage.

Minnick says her department has gotten used to making improvements after the many storms the county has seen and adds that they will work quickly to make sure repairs get done.

"My little department has become pros at this so like I said, that's why we got out, a few of us, the department heads, around 4:30 in the morning and started immediately assessing and trying to do what the citizens expect for us," said Minnick.

Minnick says the cost will be covered using insurance, so no tax money will be used.
