Terrell County summer program offers students three hot meals a day
Students in Terrell County are staying busy this summer thanks to one volunteer program.
The Positive Direction Youth Center is offering daily education and three hot meals Monday through Thursday to 160 students with the help of the school system and Bright from the Start.
During the summer program, students are learning about virtual technology, robotics and going on field trips.
According to Director and Founder Dorothy Tomlin, the program has been in operation for the past 13 years.
"It's just very beneficial for the community at large for children to just receive three hot meals per day. It helps their energy level, it helps their ability to focus and it just helps the child all around," said Tomlin.
The Positive Direction Youth Center only has the funding to stay open for 16 days this summer with the program wrapping up on Friday
According to Tomlin, the center will reopen on August 7 for after school programs during the school year.
