DAWSON, GA (WFXL) — Members of the Dawson City Council discussed for nearly two hours Tuesday night to determine what to do next after City Manager Owen 'Barney' Parnacott was arrested in Terrell County on Friday and charged with one count of aggravated sodomy.
City Attorney Tommy Coleman told Fox 31 that the City of Dawson has a charter that governs how the city operates in the absence of a city manager.
Based on the charter's guidelines, the council designated former City Clerk Sheri Howard as Interim City Manager.
Parnacott cannot be fired from his position as City Manager until he is officially convicted of a crime, because the city manager is not an "at-will" position.
The investigation into Parnacott is ongoing, so if you have any information on the case, you're asked to contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation directly at 229-777-2080.
