Second annual Watermelon Days Hot Air Balloon Festival this weekend
According to the Watermelon Board, Cordele is the number one watermelon producing county in the state of Georgia.
Every June, the city celebrates with a month long festival called "Watermelon Days."
As a part of the 30 day festival, the Cordele - Crisp Chamber of Commerce is hosting their second annual Hot Air Balloon event this weekend.
This year, over 30 hot air balloons will take to the sky on Friday and Saturday.
Weekend festivities will include balloon rides, food vendors, face painting and the Chehaw Zoo.
According to Balloon Meister Ben Drennan, riding in a hot air balloon is an experience unlike any other.
"It is the most peaceful experience you can have. We tell people all the time that it's more likely earth takes off from underneath you than you taking off from the earth. And once your in the air, your in the wind so you don't feel it. The balloon doesn't rock or sway or make any motion," said Drennan.
You can ride in a tethered hot air balloon that goes up 30 feet for $10 dollars.
If you're interested in taking a ride over the city, there are still spots available.
You can contact the Cordele - Crisp County Chamber or visit www.americanballoonrides.com.
The cost is $225 per person.
