Project aims to give local students life-changing opportunities
Some local high school students heard from Harvard University's assistant debate coach on Tuesday.
Brandon Fleming spoke to the students at Albany State's Center for Educational Opportunity as an extension of the Harvard Diversity Project.
Fleming calls the project "a pipeline that recruits, trains and feeds students of color into a summer residency at Harvard debate council."
He says he started the initiative after noticing a lack of African-American representation at Harvard.
That project sent 25 Atlanta students to Harvard.
Fleming says coming to speak to the students brings Harvard to them and allows access to different opportunities.
"We're all about educational equity and providing kids with opportunities and access to opportunities that they may not have otherwise had," said Fleming.
