Ocilla holds celebration honoring local musician
The city of Ocilla wrapped up a two-day event Friday night honoring a Grammy-nominated musician from the small town.
Family and friends of late R&B singer Dave Prater of 'Sam and Dave' came out along with the rest of the community to celebrate his life.
Some of their famous songs include "I'm a soul man" and "Hold on I'm comin."
This duo began their career in Miami. From 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., about 200 people came out for food, fun, dancing, a live band and a talent show.
"The high school band and show choir kicked it off and then we had a talent show because that's how he was discovered so we thought 'hey we'll have one,'" said Candace Jordan, president of the Ocilla-Irwin Chamber.
Anthony Prater, one of Dave Prater's sons, was there with his children and other family members and says it was special to them.
"It's very humbling to have my father honored and to be here, to be present," Prater said. "I wish he were here to see this but his legacy is his children, his grandchildren and his family so this is very humbling to have everybody here."
Prater was also recognized by Georgia Senator Jay Roberts and Congressman Tyler Harper.
