Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany said goodbye to its outgoing commanding officer on Thursday and hello to its new one.

The base held a change of command ceremony Thursday morning to pass the colors and commanding officer position from Col. James C. Carroll III to Col. Alphonso Trimble.

Col. Carroll is next headed to work in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in the Pentagon.

He said he greatly enjoyed his three years in Albany and added he and his family couldn't have asked for a better assignment.

"Coming in to the new job at the time, they just made us feel welcome," he said. "We had a phenomenal team who was standing by and ready to assist, to help grow us really into the job."

Col. Trimble said he plans to continue the initiatives started by Col. Carroll during his time at MCLB.

"My goal is basically to continue the great progress Jim and [his wife] Shari have put in place, and I can't do any better than that," he said.

Col. Trimble comes to Albany from the Pentagon, where he served as Secretary of the General Staff.
