#MyAmericus spreads local support for national competition
Americus is in the top 10 of a national competition in which the winning community gets $500,000 for its local businesses.
Americus is the only town in Georgia to have progressed this far in the Small Business Revolution: Main Street competition, which is sponsored by Deluxe Corporation.
The overall winner will be featured on an upcoming season of the TV series “Small Business Revolution,” and six local businesses from that town will receive a share of the $500,000 to make improvements.
But Americus is now asking the public to get involved on social media to boost their shot at winning.
“Pictures, stories, whatever, and just post them on any type of platform — your Facebooks, Twitters, Instagrams, even YouTube, and just tell us your story and tell us how much you love living in this area and love our community and add #MyAmericus," Americus Main Street Director Patrick Kay said.
Judges from the competition are visiting Americus next Monday and Tuesday to determine if it’ll make the top five. Kay said the public is invited to welcome them at the Windsor Hotel on Monday at 4 p.m. to show their support.
Then the final winner will be selected from that group by a public vote.
Past winning towns are Wabash, Ind., and Bristol Borough, Penn.
