First responders have found the body of a teenager after he did not resurface in the Muckalee Creek near the Forrester Parkway Bridge Wednesday afternoon.
Officials with the Lee County Sheriff's Office say they received a call around 12:15 p.m. about the teen.
Lee County Firefighters, Sheriff's Office, EMS, Dive Team and Sumter County Search and Rescue were part of the five hour long rescue and recovery search effort.
"With everybody able to work together we were able to successfully search and rescue this teenage boy so the family could have closure," said Chief Deputy Lewis Harris.
Lewis Harris says this isn't the first time a person has drowned near the Forrester Parkway Bridge in Lee County.
He adds high water levels from rain made the search and rescue extremely challenging.
The Lee County Criminal Investigative Division is doing an investigation to make sure foul play wasn't involved.
