Christmas is just days away and Keep Albany - Dougherty Beautiful Executive Director Judy Bowles says she wants to make sure recycling is at the forefront of everyone's minds.

According to Bowles, it's estimated that we produce about 25 percent more waste during the holiday season.

She says there are many things we can do to reduce waste, including limiting the amount of time Christmas lights stay on.

Bowles also recommends purchasing your Christmas tree at a nursery so that it can be planted later and recycling cardboard boxes that many of your gifts will come in.

"If you buy a new TV set, a new computer, laptop or whatever and you put those boxes out by your trash can, you're telling everybody that goes by your house what you have," said Bowles.

Bowles says you can recycle newspaper, magazine materials, plastic containers and much more.

There are two recycling sites in Albany. One on Meredyth Drive and one behind the Civic Center.
