Students and parents at Turner Elementary School are focused on staying healthy this school year.

Albany Area Primary Healthcare held its annual health fair at the school.

Several providers were there to provide free health screenings and education on staying healthy.

Officials said the theme for the event was ‘Staying Fit.’ Albany Area Primary Healthcare has six school based clinics and Turner Elementary is one of the sites.

"Maybe a year or two ago they we're going to field days and they were buying candy, Skittles, popcorn; things of that nature. But now they're thinking healthy. They’re buying boiled eggs, fruits during field days. So the culture is really changing,” said Earnest Brown, Director of School Based Health Centers with Albany Area Primary Healthcare.

At Thursday event they gave away bikes to boys and girls.

Last year, they gave away one bike but gave away 10 bikes this year.

Organizers said they want both parents and students to always remember to be healthy.

Some of the vendors on site were Albany Area YMCA, Albany Allergy & Asthma, Amerigroup Health Plan, Dental (AARHC), Korey Hammond (TJC), Outreach and Enrollment, Peach State Health Plan, Phoebe Network of Trust Health Educator Program, Right from the Start Medicaid, Walgreens Pharmacy, WellCare Health Plan and Sam’s Club.
