Goodwill to serve Tifton community through new store
People in Tifton have a new place to shop while helping to give back to their community.
The new, 8,500-square foot Goodwill store off Highway 82 in Tifton opened its doors Thursday.
Dozens of shoppers lined up before the ribbon was cut to be among the first people inside and to scoop up grand-opening prizes and giveaways.
This store will replace the former location in downtown Tifton, which has served as a Goodwill store for about 20 years.
Goodwill of Southern Rivers CEO & President Jack Warden said while many people are familiar with Goodwill stores, a lot of them don't know where the money the store makes eventually goes.
"That's the engine that fuels our mission, and our mission is to help people by providing a hand up through job training, through preparation of resumes, through job placement, career counseling," he said. "All those are things we're doing to help people land that dream job that helps them be self-supporting."
Warden said this store is one of 12 in the Goodwill of Southern Rivers region, which he said employs almost 700 people and extends from Carrollton to Valdosta.
