Golf tournament adds to ABAC scholarship fund
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College raised money Friday to help more agriculture students continue their studies.
The school held its annual Ag Classic golf tournament at Forest Lakes Golf Course.
The tournament, which is hosted by ABAC's Ag Alumni Council and the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, has raised more than $300,000 over the past 17 years.
It's too early to know right now how much it brought in this year, but tournament organizers said all signs are looking good.
"We are on track to have a good year," said Marcus Pollard, the Ag Alumni Council chairman. "We're definitely in the positive, so any money is good money for scholarship opportunities for students."
But the scholarship money isn't the only benefit of the annual event.
"It also gives us an opportunity to reconnect with alumni who are out working," ABAC President David Bridges said. "Most of the people who are participating today are somehow related to the ag business or the turf, grass and golf course business."
