UPDATE:
Cordele police have identified the victim fatally shot Tuesday morning.
Police say that 31-year-old Jared Gherefiel, of Cordele, was killed.
The investigation is still underway and no other new information was released at the time of publication.
ORIGINAL STORY:
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Cordele Police Department are investigating after a man was found dead early Tuesday morning.
Cordele police responded to multiple calls for shots fired in the area of 4th Avenue and 3rd Street around 2 a.m.
During the initial investigation, a 31-year-old male was found deceased. Suspect(s) were not at the scene when law enforcement officials arrived.
Captain Andrew Roufs says investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the death. Roufs adds that he is hoping residents in the area may have heard or seen something out of the ordinary and will report it to Cordele Police or GBI agents.
Chief Lewis Green said, “We are saddened by this senseless loss of life and are working diligently to identify those involved. Because this an active investigation, we will not be able to release the name of the victim or any specific details surrounding this incident at this time. However, as soon as we are able to release that information, we will."
