GBI arrests Sylvester police officer
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says a Sylvester Police Department Investigator has been arrested.
Officials say that 46-year-old Jaton Johnson is facing charges of violation of oath by a public officer, false swearing and false statements.
On August 6, 2018, the Tift County District Attorney’s Office requested the GBI to conduct an investigation in reference to allegations of perjury and false statements involving Johnson. It is alleged that Johnson provided a false statement to a Worth Magistrate Judge in order to obtain a dismissal of warrants taken by another Sylvester Police Department officer according to the GBI.
The GBI says that the investigation is ongoing.
