Fresh fruits and veggies at WIC farmers market this week
Dougherty County residents who participate in WIC have easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables this entire week.
The Dougherty County Health Department WIC Farmers Market will be open until this Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m..
According to Nutritionist Kisha Evans, WIC participants will receive $30 dollar fruit and vegetable vouchers where they can pick farm fresh options of their choice.
The farmers market is being held right outside of the Dougherty County Health Department off South Slappey and includes different Georgia farmers every day.
Evans says it's all about giving residents fresh options they may not be able to find otherwise.
"We find that a lot of residents don't particularly eat enough fruits and veggies and what we found is that a lot of people may not have the funds to buy the fruits and veggies and that's why we have our farmers market program," said Evans.
The farmers market is also open to the general public.
The market will wrap up this Friday at 4.
