The National Weather Service office in Jacksonville, Florida confirms that an EF-0 tornado touched down in Atkinson County Sunday afternoon.

According to the Emergency Manager in Atkinson County, there were tree tops that were snapped off between County Road 38 and Lazy Nine Road, just southeast of Willacoochee.

No other significant damage was reported.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee told FOX 31 that they plan to be in South Georgia on Tuesday assessing areas that saw storm damage over the weekend.

The EF Scale, or The Enhanced Fujita Scale, classifies tornadoes into the following categories.

  • EF0...Weak......65 TO 85 mph
  • EF1...Weak......86 TO 110 mph
  • EF2...Strong....111 TO 135 mph
  • EF3...Strong....136 TO 165 mph
  • EF4...Violent...166 TO 200mph
  • EF5...Violent...>200mph
