To complement upcoming renovations to the Northwest branch library in Dougherty County, the library plans to expand its parking lot.

Commissioners voted on Monday to reallocate $469,270 in SPLOST VI funds for this project.

That money was originally intended to go toward renovations at the Westtown branch library, but Director Pauline Abide said they should be able to get that funding from a state Major Repairs and Renovations, or MRR, grant.

Because of this, commissioners put one condition on their unanimous approval: That the money's reallocation is now subject to the MRR grant being included and approved in the upcoming state budget.

Abide said they're optimistic that will happen, and she added those renovations will target an area of Westtown that's been closed off recently.

"Make it a more usable and open floor plan with the use of that space incorporated into the whole floor plan," she said.

But not everything on Monday's agenda was approved.

Commissioners decided to table the vote on a new lease between the county and Phoebe North for the coroner to use that hospital's morgue.

The agreement that commissioners had considered last week had the county paying $426 each month in rent, but they would now like to renegotiate the monthly rent paid to the hospital.

They'll revisit this item at next week's meeting and possibly have a new lease agreement to consider.
