Civic group recognizes hard work of local first responders
Local firefighters and paramedics were thanked for all their hard work on Friday.
The Exchange Club of Albany held its annual meeting Friday in which the firefighters and paramedics of the year from Dougherty and Lee County were recognized.
Honored were paramedics Chris Laramore of Lee County and Robert Head of Dougherty County and firefighters Jason Warren of Lee County and Jeremy Bullington of Dougherty County.
Laramore said he was honored to be recognized by his peers.
"I wouldn't be where I'm at today and wouldn't know what I know if it wasn't for the people that brought me in this business and trained me and showed me how to do this job," he said.
Exchange Club members said their work was especially important this year with all the severe weather that Southwest Georgia has experience.
"They don't think about it; they just do it, and that's what makes them so great," said Exchange Club member Bruce Maples. "That's why we're so glad to have them here, and it's just a small token of our appreciation."
