An Albany church has a new way to try to lift up the city and the people who live here.

Walk By Faith Ministries on West Gordon Avenue just started its new "Faith Project."

Their goal is to uplift people who might have fallen under the radar and are now struggling.

Pastor Yaz Johnson said they'll work to change their mindsets and teach them soft skills, like how to write a resume and interview for a job.

He said he hopes by doing this, it'll benefit the entire area by teaching people how to metaphorically fish for themselves.

"When industries look at Albany, they'll look at our hunger," he said. "They'll look at that they have good customer service. They'll look at the fact that we are wanting to do better. We are a community that is thriving, and we want to reach down and help everybody that we can to rise above it all."

Johnson said they plan to travel through different neighborhoods to find people to help and by taking referrals.

The Faith Project is also looking for volunteers at this time. You can get involved by calling Johnson at 229-894-7750 or emailing thefaithprojectofalbany@gmail.com
