Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Georgia, according to the Department of Public Health.

The department says most of these deaths are preventable.

At the Phoebe hospital board meeting Wednesday afternoon, cardiologist Mark Cohen shared what heart services are available to southwest Georgians.

However, Cohen says that prevention is best so that you never need to use the services.

"All these things that have to do with prevention, which really is regular exercise, monitoring your blood pressure, weight control, control of cholesterol," said Cohen.

Cohen adds that not smoking is one of the biggest things you can do for a healthy heart.
