APD searching for person who hurt officer

Albany Police officials say a routine traffic stop lead to an officer being hospitalized. Now police want the public's help in locating the suspect.

Authorities say Zaybian Barber, 34, intentionally struck Sgt. Denise Barnes' patrol car Tuesday after she attempted to stop him for a traffic infraction.

Police say Zaybian was pulled over because he was swerving in the road.

After hitting Sgt. Barnes' car, the suspect took off. He jumped out of his car in the 400 block of Watkins and ran away.

Officials have issued several warrants against Barber. He's wanted for reckless driving and obstruction of an officer.

Sgt. Denise Barnes, a West district officer, was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Anyone with information about Zaybian Barber's' whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or the Albany Police Department.
