ALBANY, Ga. (WFXL) -- Good news for those that frequent the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport in Albany.
Albany City Commissioners just approved a five year lease agreement with Delta Airlines.
The agreement means that the Albany airport will continue to have airline services through Delta Airlines from Albany to Atlanta for the next five years.
Transportation Director David Hamilton says almost every flight is 85 to 90 percent full at the Albany airport.
He adds that there are many other advantages that come with flying locally.
"You can get in and out of our check points within three to five minutes, as opposed to Atlanta, it could take hours," said Hamilton. "We have reasonable pricing as far as parking and then when you look at the time it takes to travel."
The agreement includes an option to renew for an additional five years in 2023 and does not prohibit any other carrier from coming to the Albany airport in the future.
