The Downtown Albany Celebration and Fireworks show lit up the sky on Wednesday, July 4th.

The event kicked off Wednesday evening at 5 p.m. in downtown Albany with live music and food vendors.

According to Recreation and Parks Coordinator Kristin Caso, the city of Albany has had a fireworks show for so long, people don't know exactly when the annual event started.

From 5 until 9:30 p.m., the city hosted a live concert with five different headliners including the local band, GG&S Experience.

Once the concert wrapped up, fireworks lit up the sky.

Caso says Albany's show is special because the fireworks team is always local to the Good Life City.

"That's the thing that makes our event so special is that we don't bring in fireworks people from the outside. We have people who work at Recreation and Parks, Public Works, Central Services, all over the city and they are our fireworks crew," said Caso.

Across Southwest Georgia, communities held local firework celebrations.

Cordele hosted their "Fireworks on the Flint" show at Georgia Veterans State Park, Douglas had a display at Jardine Stadium, Fitzgerald held their celebration at Paulk Park and Valdosta lit up the sky at Wild Adventures.
