The 54th annual Peanut Festival kicks off this weekend in Sylvester.

The carnival will open at 5 p.m. on Friday with live music, gospel singers and a ceremony honoring farmers and their families at 7 p.m.

The downtown parade will kick off at 10 a.m. Saturday and the carnival will stay open until 4 p.m.

There will be arts and crafts, food vendors, music and entertainment all day on Saturday.

According to Festival Committee Chairman Wendy Kennedy, it's all about giving back to the local farmers right here in Sylvester.

"Peanuts, that’s a large product that we produce here in our county and so it’s just a way to give back to honor the work that they do each and every day, Actually if you think about it, you use the peanut for a lot of different things so it’s an important commodity for us.”

It costs $20 to get into the carnival. Everything else is free of charge.

Once the festival ends Saturday, preparation for the 55th annual Peanut Festival will begin.
