Adel residents will have to find a new way to spend their late nights following a curfew that has been enacted by the Adel City Council at the South Georgia Motorsports Park.
Nearly three weeks ago, city council members unanimously voted for a curfew for the motor sports park. The curfew would restrict races from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The curfew resulted from numerous noise complaints filed by citizens that live near the racetrack according to Adel Mayor Billy Duke.
If the park fails to abide by the curfew, there will be penalties that include fines up to $1,000 and even suspension of races for a year.
The racetrack owner was unable to attend the initial council meeting because of health issues according to the motorsports park's general manager. However, the owner will be in attendance at a meeting July 6 to voice his concerns.
