Even after a slow start, the Albany State basketball coaches stayed patient.
"Just wait, wait until we get our top players back" was a common thread in the early months of the season. The Golden Rams were waiting on seniors and leading scorers Justin Wilcox and Jaren Harris.
To start January, the ASU duo returned to the line up. Now, it's time for the SIAC team to get back in the hunt.
The Golden Rams have won two straight conference games due in large part to the contributions of Wilcox and Harris. The seniors have led the team in scoring in five of its last nine games and the impact is translating to optimism at HPER Gym.
"We struggled a little bit coming in to conference play, but when we started gelling, like last week, everything clicked a little better. We're just working hard and staying focused," Wilcox said.
"We've been trying to find some consistency in the offense and some chemistry. I told the guys just keep working...we're doing great things...it just takes time sometimes. They continued to believe and kept working at it. Now, we're starting to see the results of it," ASU Head Coach Chris Cameron said.
Albany State's chance to extend its winning streak runs through Clark-Atlanta Thursday. With the SIAC's worst record, Clark-Atlanta travels to Albany for a 7:30 tipoff.
