Take a glance at the list of top ten teams heading into college football this season. Several of them have offered Westover's Trent Thompson a football scholarship. That's how coveted Thompson is.
The defensive lineman is entering his junior season for Octavia Jones and the Patriots at Westover.
He has offers from prominent schools scattered across the southeastern United States. He's visited Tennessee and has the attention of the undisputed best head coach in college football, Nick Saban. Heading into the season, he counts Georgia, Florida, and Florida State among his frontrunners.
With two years of high school ball remaining, however, there is still plenty of room for improvement for Thompson. He acknowledged that he needs to be more versatile as he prepares for a possible change from defensive tackle to defensive end at the next level. His coach wants him to finish plays and thinks he can have a better motor on Friday nights.
"He's been tabbed with the five star status and we're gonna make sure it doesn't go to his head," Jones said. "We make him work extra hard, and he has no problem with that because he's as hungry as everybody else."
