After the regular season, regionals and sectionals, Dougherty County is down to one wrestler for this weekend's GHSA-AAA state meet.
And if you were to look at a line-up of the state's wrestling participants, you'd probably miss this Westover Patriot. Sophomore Rondell Williams will wrestle at 113 lbs., but he packs a punch.
Williams will be the lone representative for the Dougherty County schools at this weekend's GHSA meet.
Westover Wrestling Coach Kevin Fretwell credits hard work and a positive attitude for the sophomore's success, but Williams' credits senior and 126-pounder Aaron David.
"Aaron was right there behind me at all times, and I just wrestled with him everyday. Last year, I was getting balled up pretty good, but kept working with him...learned and I guess it just paid off," Williams said.
"That's my brother and I've known him for a while...it feels good knowing that he's going and he's working hard and that he's going to represent," David said.
The GHSA-AAA state meet begins Thursday in Atlanta. Williams weighs in during the afternoon and begins climbing towards a state championship Friday.
