Westover tennis moves on

Westover's tennis team began the state playoffs the right way: with a win.

John Scanling's team disposed of Richmond Academy easily for a 3-0 first round victory.

Of course, the Patriots are no stranger to winning, especially in 4A-1, where they haven't lost since 2012. But after consecutive region titles, they want more.

"We just have a bond that we didn't have last year," said senior Chirag Mendpara. "I think that's what's really going to help us win this year."

Scanling doesn't want to look ahead, but he's optimistic about Westover's chances.

"We really get wins from everybody, it's a team effort," said Scanling.

The Patriots match up with Eagle's Landing on Monday for round two.
