Westover football shook up the 4A-Region 1 race last week with a 14-9 win over Cairo.
For the Syrupmakers, it was their first region loss since 2009. For the Patriots, it solidified them as serious contenders for the region title.
The win put Westover at 3-2 on the season, but 2-0 in the region. They have a bye this week before facing Crisp County next week.
Head coach Octavia Jones is pleased with the progress his team has made, particularly on the offensive line. He feels like a big part of his team's success on both sides of the ball has been due to winning battles at the line of scrimmage.
Still, Jones and his coaching staff are reminding the Westover players that it's a long season. Opponents noticed the big win over Cairo.
"The targets are now on our back," Jones said. "We got to make sure our guys are able to handle that, because we're gonna get everybody's best game from here on out."
