The large majority of young football players never make it to the NFL. Luckily, their might be a backup plan for some talented football players in southwest Georgia.
The Albany Panthers, the only professional football team in the area, are holding open tryouts this Saturday. The workouts will be run by head coach Lucious Davis. Potential Panthers will participate in one-on-one drills and run a 40-yard dash, among other things.
For the Panthers, it's an opportunity to scout the local talent. But it's also a realistic way to fill out the roster. The team signed two players from the tryouts in 2012.
"It's important to be able to have these local tryouts here in Albany," general manager Will Carter said. "We're looking for talent at every position."
The team's website has signups and more information. The tryouts will be held on Albany High's practice field.
