The Darton State College Women's soccer team has an unproven group of Cavaliers. Yet, there's a lot to prove after the NJCAA preseason poll slotted Darton as the third best team in the nation.
More numbers for Darton Head Coach Ken Veilands to digest, 18 freshmen have joined the Cavaliers for 2012 leaving a void in leadership. Darton's goalkeeper Tory Donchak is expected to be a special freshman contributor.
Always talented and certainly capable, Darton soccer is always looking for more. The Cavaliers have a lot of room to build off last year's championship-caliber team.
"Sometimes you get blinded by the team you had before and how strong they were, but they were together for two years. I can't compare that, and that's where I've got to be careful. I see a progression. I see things happening," Veilands said.
"Having a new team like this, we're going to have to push forward and go strong...just as last year. We had a really good team last year and we just want to continue the energy in moving on to our next team," midfielder Katherine Blumhardt
The Cavaliers scheduled three home scrimmages to ease in to regular season competition. The second scrimmage is schedules for 11 AM on Saturday.
