The United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour will make a stop in Southwest Georgia this weekend.

Saturday night's race will take place at 7:30 at the Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia. The top ten finishers will automatically qualify for the Atlanta Motor Speedway race in late August. One of the drivers, Morgan Turpen, is new to this style of racing but remains confident.

"We're hoping for a top five, but definitely would love a win. It's only our fourth or fifth time out here in a pavement car," Turpen said. "We've set a couple track records and some poles, so maybe it will be my time tomorrow."

Ten-time national champion Terry Gray and 14-year-old phenom Garrett Green will also participate in the 18-car race. USCS President Pete Walton is excited for what the track has to offer.

"We'll get 130 mile-per-hour speeds over there pretty easy. It'll just be a great show for the fans."
