Two Albany State ballplayers are keeping the dream alive.

Robert Latner and Jacob Campbell both signed with teams in the Pecos League, which is an independent professional baseball league based in the southwest. They will be eligible to sign with Major League teams after the MLB draft in June.

Latner, who played catcher at ASU, is already playing for the Bisbee Blue in Arizona. Campbell, a Westover High alumnus, leaves this week to play for the Roswell Invaders out of New Mexico. Campbell finished ninth in all of Division II in hitting.

For both players, the goal is to play well enough to impress MLB scouts.

"I've always been told I'm too small and not fast enough and I guess I continue to want to prove people wrong," Campbell said. "I'm glad to get the opportunity."
