Every school's goal in high school basketball is to earn a state championship, but that is easier said than done. The quest began a week ago for both the boys and girls of the Georgia High School Association. Moving into this week, the Sweet 16 has concluded for the girls, with some dreams still alive for the Elite Eight.
The Monroe Lady Tornadoes took on Dutchtown High School at home for a region AAAA showdown, and entering halftime the Lady Tornadoes grabbed ahold of the lead and never let go, beating the Dutchtown 50-38. The ladies from Westover were not so lucky when they hit the road to take on Woodland and falling 50-41.
Down to the AA brackets, the undefeated Pelham lady Hornets hosted Taylor County and to no surprise putting on a great performance while holding on for the win 53-37. Tift County lady Blue Devils on the other hand, entered the tournament with a big win, by upsetting Westlake 59-58. Unfortunately, Tift County suffered a hard fought loss to Marietta on the road 56-47.
