Tift's Katelyn Utley Breaks State Record

The GHSA Girl's State track meet hit the field events Friday and Tift County's Katelyn Utley took center stage.

Utley, the two-time state pole vault champ, blew away the AAAAAA competition. The junior Blue Devil not only broke the state record, Utley smashed it with a vault of 12' 6".

In the AAAAA pole vault, Lee County's Holly Ebbets fell just short of another state title. Ebbets finished at 11' 6". On her first attempt at 12 feet, she grazed the bar just enough to fall, a mark that would have been enough for the state title.

In AAAA Discus, a pair of Albany throwers finished at the top. Monroe sophomore Ashley Harrell threw 132' 4" for the state championship. Westover's Ayanna Mitchell placed second.
