The GHSA state baseball playoffs start this weekend, and several of Southwest Georgia TMs high school teams have high hopes heading into the most important part of the season.
In 6-A, Tift County went 21-4 on the year, earning a two-seed and a home matchup with Tri Cities. Last year, Kyle Kirk and the Blue Devils made a run to the elite eight. This year, they TMre hoping to advance even farther, and the players are believers.
They know that we TMre very talented from top to bottom and they know that we TMre very deep, Kirk said. So we TMre just gonna try and make a run at it as best we can.
Elsewhere in 6-A Region 1, the Colquitt County Packers made a deep run in last year TMs state tournament. This season, they TMre playing the role of underdog as a four-seed. They TMll travel to East Coweta this weekend.
In 5-A, Lee County TMs had their ups and downs in 2014, but coach Brandon Brock is pleased to be in the playoffs. The four-seeded Trojans are a confident ball club as they prepare for Ware County.
I think we TMre the most dangerous four-seed in the state, said senior Mason Wisener.
First round doubleheaders are set for Friday, May 2nd. If the teams split, the deciding game will be played on Saturday, May 3rd.
