Three's A Charm for Westover Basketball

The U-Save It Basketball Classic Championship certainly lived up to its billing. And it was certainly a classic with the two teams involved.

Cross-town rivals Albany and Westover met on the hardwood for the third time this season Monday. Albany had the mental advantage winning the first two meetings by 11 and 10 points, but Westover had their own secret weapon for this one- Patriot star Dequan Green.

Green hit a tie-breaking three point field goal with seconds remaining to lead Westover to the championship over Albany 54-51.

Westover head coach Dallis Smith was to the point in the difference between Monday's game and the previous one versus Albany.

"Green." Smith said. "Green didn't play the last game and this game he had the big three there at the end...I think his play was the difference in the ballgame...that last three was huge."

Westover's TJ Cromer was named the Charlie Givens MVP award winner for his three game performance. The MVP trophy honored longtime Dougherty Basketball coach Charlie Givens who died last month.
