Thompson, Parrish, others make first team all-state
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution released their all-state teams over the weekend, and Southwest Georgia's best are well-represented.
In 6-A, linebackers Quintin Hampton of Colquitt County and Tre Jackson of Lowndes made all-state. Colquitt also had running back Sihiem King and offensive lineman Gabriel Mobley make honorable mention.
In 5-A, Lee County's Jesse Freeman made the team as a tackle and Thomas County Central's Austin Parmer made it on the defensive line. Star quarterbacks Stephen Collier and Adam Choice made honorable mention.
Westover's strong defense in 2013 was anchored by their defensive line, so it's no surprise that two members of that line made it to the 4-A team. Trent Thompson made first team and Brenton Wimberly made honorable mention.
In 2-A, Brooks County quarterback Malcom Parrish was named to the first team as a quarterback. One of his wide receivers, Deric Herring, made honorable mention along with Thomasville's Mario Cherry and Allen Robinson.
Irwin County had two players make the 1-A all-state team in offensive lineman Cam Morgan and linebacker Antwuane Merritt. Jakyron Young was named to the honorable mention team. Randolph-Clay running back Cornelius Bennett also made honorable mention along with Seminole County's Javonte Smith and Robert Speight.
