The Terrell County boy's basketball season has gone accordingly to their mascot. It's been an up and down ride of overtime losses and buzzer beating wins for the Terrell Greenwave.
Since last Friday, Terrell beat Americus-Sumter and then (to stay in rhythm) lost to Albany the very next day. On Monday, the team could continue the cycle with a win over 4A-Statesboro.
It got choppy in the fourth quarter, but Terrell held on for the 52-42 win over the Statesboro Blue Devils. Statesboro chipped the Terrell lead down to six points late in the fourth, but the youthful-Greenwave didn't lose their composure- or the lead.
The team is still growing as they lost a lot from their state runner up 2010 season, but Terrell Head Coach John Davis is pleased with the progress.
"We lost seniors...at least eight seniors last year, a very great point guard but here we are...we're playing with a sense of urgency now," Davis said. "I'm very proud of these guys and they're making my dream come true."
The Greenwave were scheduled to play in the fifth place against Mitchell County Tuesday. That will not happen due to Terrell County scheduling. Instead, Statesboro will play the Eagles Tuesday at 4 PM. Mitchell County defeated Southeast Bulloch 69-19 on Monday.
