It's a busy schedule for the first round of the high school football playoffs in Southwest Georgia.
The top two seeds of each region host a playoff game this weekend. Colquitt County, Lee County, Westover, and Brooks County will all host games on Friday. The lower two seeds in each region travel for a road game.
Monroe is one of the teams that must travel to play. The Tornadoes have won a first round road game in each of the past two seasons, only to be bounced in the second round.
"Our kids understand the importance of this time of the year," said Monroe head coach Charles Truitt. ""Right now they understand it's a one game series."
Thomas County Central, Crisp County, Cook, and Fitzgerald are other teams that have to go on the road to start their playoff run.
In the G.I.S.A., Deerfield-Windsor is back in the playoffs. Even though head coach Allen Lowe's team dropped four games in 2013, the defending state champions host Mount de Sales at 7:30 on Friday.
"They understand what it takes and they understand how to handle the emotions of a football game," Lowe said. "You have to let each play go and focus on the next one."
