Sherwood Christian suffered a devastating loss in the season opener, but that's not diminishing their optimism.
The Eagles fell in overtime, 20-13, to Alabama's Abbeville Christian on Friday night. This week, they'll play another out-of-state opponent in Glenwood of Alabama.
But Otis Covington and his coaching staff are learning to embrace the unfamiliar opponents. They moved from the GISA to the GICAA, and the league and the region are brand new.
"We're kind of focusing on the opponent we have in front of us, week to week," Covington said.
The Eagles plan on making some noise, regardless of the opponent. They only lost one senior to graduation, so they have plenty of experience on offense and defense.
Even with the early loss, there's still a long season ahead for Sherwood Christian.
"You always want to have some high goals," Covington said. "We think we're capable of achieving them."
