Seven Sign on for Darton Softball

The Darton College softball team is coming off their highest national finish in school history. Expectations haven't changed this season, but many of the Cavalier players have.

Darton Head Coach David Dews signed seven players Tuesday morning to fill out his 2012 softball class. Certainly, these players will see the field early and often.

The Cavaliers return only five sophomores from a team that finished sixth at the NJCAA Softball World Series last May.

Coach Dews isn't too worried about the lack of depth. The coach thinks these players can handle the pressure and expectations that revolve around his softball program.

"I believe that all of them will have a big impact on our success next year. We're relying on them, we're counting on them to be able to come in and perform at a high level," Dews said.

One thing the Cavs won't be lacking is solid pitching.

The team has several experienced pitchers returning including ace Katy Lewis, and added three more pitchers for this class.

"I'm just going to do all the work I can to try to...step up. I want to help this team go as far as we can," Alabama native Jostlyn Higgerson said.

Dews and the Cavs began practice last Tuesday. The team opens the 2012 season in two weeks at Andrew College.
