Rebels hope to finish better in 2014

Turner County's hoping to take a big step on the football field this season. But to do it, they're focusing on the little things.
Coach John Gamble and the Rebels made the playoffs in 2013, but they lost too many close games in the process. So during preseason camp, they've worked on eliminating turnovers and special teams mistakes. And the coaches are making sure the players understand that every play counts.
"What we've been preaching this year is finishing games," Gamble said. "We felt like we had three games last year that we left out there and didn't finish."
Like most 1-A teams, Turner County is small and not very deep. But they're extremely fast and they have plenty of playmakers at the skill positions. The spread, no-huddle offense should take some extra strides in year two under Gamble.
But they can't beat themselves.
"A 4-6 verses a 7-3 year is huge," Gamble said.
The Rebels open up at home on Friday night against Terrell County.
