Westover football accomplished something for the first time last season by winning the 4A-1 region championship. Now, they'll try to do it again.
Head coach Octavia Jones is making sure his kids know where they stand.
"This team has not done anything yet," Jones said on his message to his team. "You have to prove that you're worthy of setting that bar even higher."
The Patriots have plenty of strengths, but also a few holes to fill.
They're replacing their starting quarterback and most of their defensive backfield. But they're solid on the offensive line, at the skill positions, and especially in the front seven of the defense.
To go along with the talent, Westover's hungry.
"They want to win more than nine games, they want to get past the second round, and they want to compete for a state championship," Jones said.
The Pats open up the season on August 23rd against Lee County on ESPNU.
